Whether you’re planning a family outing or an evening with friends, the Community Cinemas are the place to be over the summer.

We’ve answered all the big questions to help you make the most of your night at the movies.

Where are the Community Cinemas?

In the 2026/27 season, you can find a Community Cinema at each of these Perth locations. Each venue has plenty of free parking.

Murdoch University:  12 November 2026 - 1 May 2027

ECU Joondalup Pines: 21 November 2026 - 26 April 2027

Bassendean: 2 December 2026 - 18 April 2027

Burswood: 10 December 2026 -  8 May 2027

Check the Community Cinemas website for detailed directions to each cinema.

What movies can I see this year?

There are some big movies showing with Practical Magic 2, The Odyssey, Focker-in-Law, Sense and Sensibility, and Whalefall, just some of the films showing throughout the season.

There are also plenty of family-friendly options, including Forgotten Island, Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom, and Toy Story 5.

Check out the full list of films and sessions.

How do I buy tickets?

You can buy tickets through the Community Cinemas website. Most tickets can also be purchased at the cinema from 6:30pm on the day of your chosen session. Venue capacities are limited, so it’s best to book online to avoid disappointment.

Kleenheat customer? Our 2-for-1 ticket offer will be valid for sessions from 1 February 2027. We'll provide details on how to access this offer in the new year - keep an eye on your inbox and our perks and rewards page for details.

How does the seating work?

Cinema gates open at 6:30pm, with most films starting at 7:45pm.

You can bring your own seats or rugs or hire a bean bag lounge. There’s a designated grassed area for different seating heights so all audience members can see the screen.

You can hire a bean bag lounge online (for $8), or purchase one on the night if there are some available.

The ECU Joondalup venue has a limited number of sling chairs which are available free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis.

Can I buy food and drinks? Can I bring my own?

You can bring your own food or choose from a selection of food available for sale at each cinema. Gates open at 6:30 pm (most films start at 7:45 pm), so you have plenty of time for a picnic.

Pizzas can be ordered online ahead of time, or you can pick up a pie or sausage roll at each venue. Just make sure you pre-order your pizza online by 5:45 p.m. on your screening day. Each venue also offers a cheese pack, which comes with a selection of cheese, crackers, and more. You can also grab a popcorn, ice cream, and other sweets to enjoy during your movie.

While you can’t bring your own alcohol, you can buy wine, beer, and soft drinks from the bar at each cinema. Coffee and other hot drinks are also available for purchase.

How do the cinemas give back to the community?

Since its establishment in 1997 (as Movies by Burswood), Community Cinemas has raised $14.5 million for charitable organisations benefiting WA children.

Its current charity partners include Telethon, 12 Buckets, Rebound WA, HorsePower Hills, Thriive, MSWA, Wheelchairs For Kids, and Foster Care Association WA.
