Local Matters | Our team on the road: Matt Barrett – Great Southern Business Representative

There’s a lot to love about Western Australia, especially regional WA, where no matter where you are, you can enjoy amazing weather, a relaxed lifestyle, and a sense of community.

As the local name in LPG, Kleenheat is catching up with our teams in Perth, regional WA, and across the Northern Territory to share their story and learn more about why they love being locals in their community.

Matt Barrett, our Great Southern Business Representative, is just one of the Kleenheat LPG team dedicated to providing the best possible service for the community in which he lives and works.

At home in regional WA

Matt is based in Lowlands, a locality between Albany and Denmark, in WA’s Great Southern. Matt enjoys living the southern lifestyle, on his hobby farm with his wife and two kelpies.

When he’s not on the road with his day job, Matt looks after his small flock of sheep and goats, fishes for salmon when they are running, and tends to his bees, whose honey he sells locally.

He loves living between the karri trees, the beach, and a part of WA that has so many natural attractions., “…This job allows me to live and work in the most incredible region. I try to take some time while I’m in the area to find out what makes the local communities proud.”, he said.

While Matt loves where he lives, he is very aware that WA has a lot on offer, no matter where you live, and has enjoyed seeing an increase in visitors along the southern coast in the past few years.

“WA is a pretty special place to live, we have so much space to explore. It’s great to see so many tourists heading out to discover what makes this state pretty terrific.”

How do our regional teams spend their time, when not on the clock?

In search of an adventure and a pastoral change, Matt moved into the area in 2016. Shortly after he joined the Kleenheat team and now manages a customer base from Brookton, through to Esperance.

Initially, Matt and his wife were welcomed into the area and so after settling in they began to get more involved in the local community. Matt is now actively involved with the Torbay Catchment Group and the Good Food Shed. “…I try to give back, by getting involved in some amazing community groups.”, he said.

“I’m out at least one night every week surveying for the, critically endangered, Western Ringtail Possums for the Torbay Catchment Group. I’m also part of the ‘Good Food Shed’ in Bornholm, selling local produce out of a beautiful old railway siding every Sunday morning from late Spring to Autumn.”, he said.

Catering to our Great Southern and Southern Wheatbelt customers

Matt appreciates how much harder it is to source reliable services, supplies, and products when living and working in regional WA. “I have so much admiration for people in the region who work so hard to get their businesses up and running to service their local communities.”, he said.

Businesses in regional and rural communities work hard to maintain good service levels and good business relations with their customers, who tend to also be their friends, family members, and neighbours.

Matt’s customers span across the Great Southern, from small seaside communities from Walpole to Esperance and inland farming towns from Hyden to Williams and everywhere in between.

His business customers vary between hospitality, industrial, and primary and secondary producers, including caravan park owners, pubs and restaurants, grain dryers, chicken growers, roadhouses, breweries, wineries, and distilleries.

Matt also works closely with Kleenheat Dealers like Neil MacDonald from the Vasse General Store and Rob Fryer in Harvey. Our dealers sell, and often deliver, 45kg gas cylinders to our residential customers in regional WA.

“I get to meet some of the nicest people you will encounter anywhere. It’s a privilege to get involved with their business in a small way, and help out with their energy needs.”
