Once you’ve selected the solar and battery package you wish to have installed at your home, the next step is getting ready for installation. This stage covers everything from planning and approvals to the installation itself. Here’s what you can expect throughout the installation process.
1. Accept your quote
Once you’ve accepted your Kleenheat Spark quote and paid your deposit/applied for finance, your installer will get your installation process started.
2. System design
Your installer will draw up a system design for your property and share it with you for your reference. This will show you the layout of the system in your home, such as where components like your solar panels, inverter, wiring, and battery (if applicable) will be installed. In some cases, your installer may conduct a site visit to confirm the system design.
3. Installation date booked
Once your system design is complete, your installer will get in touch to book your installation on a date that works for you.
4. Rebates and incentives
During this time, your installer will claim the government rebates and small-scale technology certificates (STCs) you’re eligible for on your behalf and take care of any paperwork. By this stage, you’ll have seen these rebates and incentives applied to your fixed-price quote and deducted from the cost of your package.
5. Approvals and grid applications
Your installer will complete Synergy’s Distributed Energy System application process (your electricity retailer), and you’ll receive a Retailer Reference Number (RRN). The installer will then obtain approval to connect your system to the grid by submitting an Embedded Generation Connection Application to Western Power with your RRN and the technical details of your system. Once Western Power approves this application, your installer is permitted to install your system.
Your installer will also let you know if there are any approvals you’ll need (such as from your strata, if applicable) and ask you to organise these.
6. Installation
Most installations can be done within one day, but larger systems may require additional installation days. The duration of your installation will depend on the size of the system being installed, your roof type, and weather conditions.
You’ll need to ensure your installer has unobstructed access to your roof, switchboard, and any other relevant areas by moving vehicles, furniture, or garden items if needed. You’ll also need to keep any pets and family members away from the work areas for safety reasons.
Installation involves drilling, wiring, and mounting panels, so you should expect some noise and disruptions throughout. The power will need to be turned off at various points, and your installer can let you know when this is likely to happen.
You should be at home while your installation is taking place. If you need to pop out, you’ll need to make sure your installers have access to any areas they’ll need to get to, like the roof cavity.
7. Final inspection and grid connection
Once your system is installed, your installer will test your system. They’ll also tell you how to use the system (such as how to switch it on and off at the inverter and how to read the display panel) and provide any relevant paperwork (such as safety certificates, warranties, and user manuals). If the system includes a monitoring app, your installer will set this up and show you how to use it.
Your installer will then submit an Embedded Generation Registration form to Western Power. Western Power and Synergy will determine whether an electricity meter change is required at your property and trigger the service order for that work to take place. Your meter will then be changed or configured for your solar system as required. Once you receive confirmation that your smart meter is configured, you can turn your system on. Your installer will let you know when and how to do this.
Here's that summed up by each stage of your solar installation:
| Stage | Installer | Homeowner |
| Quote & deposit/financing | Provides a fixed-price quote including rebates through Kleenheat Spark. | Accepts the quote and pays the deposit/applies for financing. |
| System design | Prepares and shares the system layout for your home (panels, inverter, battery, if applicable). | Reviews the design, asks any questions about the design or installation, and approves the design. |
| Rebates & incentives | Claims the STCs and rebates included in the solar and/or battery package. | No action needed (rebates already factored into the Kleenheat Spark quote). |
| Approvals & grid applications | Applies to Synergy for a Retailer Reference Number (RRN), submits an Embedded Generation Connection Application to Western Power, and obtains approval before installation. | Organises additional approvals if needed (e.g., strata, council approvals). |
| Installation | Installs panels, inverter, wiring, battery (if applicable), and ensures compliance with safety standards. | Provides clear access to the roof, switchboard, and work areas, keeps pets/family away, and is present or ensures access, etc. |
| Final inspection & testing | Tests the system, provides manuals, warranties, safety certificates, and sets up a monitoring app if included. | Learns how to operate the system and stores any related documents for future reference. |
| Grid connection | Submits an Embedded Generation Registration to Western Power and notifies you when the system can be switched on. | Waits for meter upgrade/configuration and switches on the system once confirmed. |
