There has never been a better time to think about including a battery in your solar system.
Since 1 July 2025, both the WA and Federal governments have been offering generous incentives to reduce the upfront cost of purchasing and installing a home battery.
Here’s what you could save with these incentives:
- WA Residential Battery Scheme: up to $1,300 in rebates for Synergy customers*, plus zero-interest loans of up to $10,000 to help spread the cost.
- Federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program: approximately 30% off the upfront cost of a battery system.
- Synergy customers can save around $5,000 on a typical 10kWh battery installation when combining the WA and Federal rebates.
*The WA Residential Battery Scheme is available to eligible households serviced by either Synergy or Horizon Power. As Kleenheat Spark packages are only available to Synergy customers, we’ve focused on information relevant to Perth households.
How Kleenheat Spark makes it easy
When you request a quote from Kleenheat, we’ll automatically apply the government rebates you’re eligible for to the packages we recommend. If you decide to go ahead, your installer will claim the rebates on your behalf.
That means you only pay the remaining balance – no hassle.
You can learn more about the two battery rebate programs and their eligibility criteria below.
WA Residential Battery Scheme
The WA Government’s Residential Battery Scheme offers battery rebates and zero-interest loans to help households cover the cost of a home battery system.
The WA Government’s Battery Rebate:
- offers rebates of up to $1,300 for Synergy customers. That’s $130 per kWh of your new home battery’s capacity, up to 10kW.
- cannot be applied retrospectively to previously installed batteries.
- requires your home battery to be connected to a Virtual Power Plant (VPP).
- only includes batteries on Synergy’s Supported Solutions List. Tesla batteries are the only Kleenheat Spark batteries not eligible for the rebate.
The WA Government’s zero-interest loans are administered by Plenti, the scheme’s financial partner. The loans:
- have a loan value of up to $10,000
- are available to WA households with a combined income of less than $210,000/year
- have repayment terms between 3 and 10 years
- require your home battery to be connected to a Virtual Power Plant (VPP)

We’ll check with you if you want to apply for the WA Government battery rebate, and zero-interest loan, and include all the information in your quote.
Federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program
The Federal Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program helps reduce the upfront cost of installing a home battery. It’s delivered through the Government’s Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme and offers a rebate of approximately 30% of the upfront cost of a battery, calculated based on the battery’s capacity in usable kilowatt-hour (kWh). It works by creating Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) for batteries and using those to reduce the cost of the battery.
To be eligible for the Cheaper Home Batteries Program, you must:
- have your home battery paired with rooftop solar panels (panels can be new or existing)
- install a battery and an inverter that’s on the Clean Energy Council’s approved list
- have your battery installed by an accredited installer
The program is designed to phase out over time, with the rebate discount set to decrease gradually until the program ends in 2030. You can only apply for the rebate once.

How the WA and Federal rebates combine for bigger savings
The WA and Federal battery rebates are designed to work together and allow eligible households to significantly reduce the upfront cost of installing a home battery.
Here’s an example of how combining the rebates could reduce your payback period (the time it takes to earn back your initial investment):
- Typical battery cost: Approximately $10,000 for a 10 kWh system
- Combined rebates: Approximately $5,000 (WA + Federal)
- Out-of-pocket cost: Approximately $5,000
- Annual savings: around $800 - $1,200 from reduced grid reliance and VPP participation
- Estimated payback period with rebates: around 5 - 6 years
- Estimated payback period without rebates: Payback would stretch to about 10 years
