Customer Close Up: Villa D’Este

Discovering this restaurant among the office buildings of West Perth and the buzz of the mid-week lunch stampede, one could be forgiven for thinking they had stumbled into Italy, a veritable Mediterranean oasis.  In fact, what I did find upon visiting Villa D’Este was a welcoming, hearty, terracotta clad restaurant that resonated class while maintaining a distinctive family essence that makes you feel like your about to taste Nona’s secret recipe.

Since opening the doors of Villa D’Este in 1994, Enrico and Elizabeth Moschetti have developed a finely tuned appreciation of what it means to deliver a complete hospitality experience. After being welcomed to the restaurant and seated, I quickly scoured the menu and was impressed by the wide selection of dishes on offer, matched with an impressive wine list.  We opted for the Business Lunch Menu, which offers a choice of four options for entree and main and then a selection of desserts all for just $38.80.fish

I selected the Pappardelle alla Carrettiera for entree, a beautiful fresh house-made pasta with semi sun-dried tomato and pesto sauce.  My colleague chose the Calamari Piccanti, squid grilled to perfection with garlic, chilli and black pepper.  We were both left in eager anticipation for our mains after a delicious introduction to the cuisine of this Italian gem.

We didn’t have to wait long until we were treated to our mains.  We ordered the Gnocchi Verdi ai Tre Formaggi, homemade potato and spinach dumplings in a creamy cheese sauce as well as the Salsiccie Nostrane con Polenta, a grilled Northern Italian style sausage with polenta. Both dishes were exquisite, with good portion sizes and beautifully rich sauces.  We were left extremely satisfied, yet somehow managed room for dessert. The deserts, a classic Italian Tiramisu and a Tortino Soave, baked chocolate pudding with warm butterscotch sauce left my sweet tooth in a state of pure bliss as I sat back soaking up the afternoon ambiance.

With my first trip to Villa D’Este drawing to a close, it was easy to see why the restaurant had earned the praise of many famous Australians, International entertainers and sporting stars who’s commendations and autographs lined the walls of the restaurant. Popular among Perth locals, city professionals and celebrities alike, this well established West Perth icon delivers the goods and certainly lived up to its gold plate reputation.

Villa D’Este is the perfect solution to impressing clients by offering 5-star service for a reasonable price.  Open for lunch Tuesday to Friday and dinner Monday to Saturday, Villa D’Este can offer intimate dining, a casual lunch on the alfresco or a private room for larger bookings.
