Do you know your Cyclamen from your Lilium? Or the difference between a Begonia Beleaf and Begonia Betulia? Is this an unknown language? To some, maybe! But to the guys at Flora Plant, it’s what gets them up in the morning. Flora Plant is a wholesale nursery specialising in high-quality flowering indoor plants, for use as gifts or décor.
As a Western Australian business born and bred, Kleenheat takes great pride in supporting other WA businesses. Everyone likes to be known for having ‘a first’. Flora Plant was the first Western Australia wholesale nursery to be NIASA (Nursery Industry Australia Standards Australia) accredited.
All successful companies have a solid team behind them, Flora Plant being no exception. Owner Richard Dekker has been involved in the running of the business since its founding in 1994 when his father opened the doors. Since taking the reins, Richard and his wife have seen their business flourish.
“Locally grown products (as with fruit and veg) is always best, and being a WA company we understand the needs of our customers”
So what does it take to not only grow such a business but to make it flourish? There are many reasons, Richard talks about a few of them:
Implementing the latest technology
Flora Plant takes pride in using modern technology to produce high-quality product offerings. Taking an innovative mindset allows them to set trends and offer more to their customer than their competition.
Flora Plant spends considerable time selecting from the world’s best breeders and optimizing the latest varieties.
Developing an extensive product offering
The nursery has a wide distinguishable product range, with many products forming part of the “backbone” to the success of the business. Products including African Violet, Begonia Elatior, Chrysanthemum, Cyclamen, Mini Rose, New Guinea Impatien and Zygo Cactus.
Knowledge and expertise
Richard’s father and ex-principle, Eddy Dekkers, has been in the industry for over 40 years, beginning his career in the Netherlands at the ripe age of 10 years old!
His vision was to produce high-quality flowering pot plants yearly, a vision which Richard maintained when he took over in 2003.
Delivering Australia wide, Flora Plant have a friendly team on call to help with any questions or queries.
Understanding what is important to the consumer
The plants are developed to have a long shelf life, being very versatile and gift/decor orientated. The team strives to meet market expectations and set trends.
A skilled team
Flora Plant has a dedicated team of professionals working behind the scenes. Sometimes they wear a different hat and become tour guides for many educational groups and industry tours.
The correct environment and conditions
Flora Plant is an LPG customer, gas being paramount to the cultivation of the business. Heating is needed to create the right temperature and environment for the plants.
“The inspiration is to provide the Perth market with top quality, long lasting indoor flowering plants”
