The festive season is upon us and lucky for those of us in WA, besides family get-togethers eating ham and pavlovas, Christmas also means days at the beach and nights spent watching movies under the stars.
Good thing then that the Telethon Community Cinemas is back for another year of entertaining Perth families and raising crucial funds for children in need.
Kleenheat’s all about staying active in the communities where we operate, so we were excited to get behind this worthy cause for the eighth year running.
Each year, over 700 generous volunteers get behind the event and continue to play a vital role helping Community Cinemas raise more than $8.25 million to date for those in need across WA.
What better way to get into the spirit of giving then to get the family together for heart-warming Christmas movies, all for a good cause.
Here are five festive flicks to get you into the holiday spirit:
For their eighth fully animated feature, Illumination and Universal Pictures present The Grinch, based on Dr. Seuss’ beloved holiday classic. The Grinch tells the story of a cynical grump who goes on a mission to steal Christmas, only to have his heart changed by a young girl’s generous holiday spirit. Funny, heartwarming and visually stunning, it’s a universal story about the spirit of Christmas and the indomitable power of optimism.
Migo (Channing Tatum) is a friendly Yeti whose world gets turned upside down when he discovers something that he didn’t know existed — a human (James Corden). He soon faces banishment from his snowy home when the rest of the villagers refuse to believe his fantastic tale. Hoping to prove them wrong, Migo embarks on an epic journey to find the mysterious creature that can put him back in good graces with his simple community.
After purchasing a large home, Ellie (Rose Byrne) and her husband Pete (Mark Wahlberg) realize they want to start a family and decide to pursue the foster adoption process. They attend a foster fair where they meet rebellious teenager Lizzy. The pair instantly take a liking to Lizzy but find out they can’t foster her without also taking in her two younger siblings, Juan and Lita, who she has raised all on her own. Now faced with a house full of not one but three difficult children, Pete and Ellie must learn how to adjust to their new roles as parents and connect with the kids, who have little interest in doing the same.
All Clara (Mackenzie Foy) wants is a key – a one-of-a-kind key that will unlock a box that holds a priceless gift from her late mother. A golden thread, presented to her at godfather Drosselmeyer’s (Morgan Freeman) annual holiday party, leads her to the coveted key—which promptly disappears into a strange and mysterious parallel world. Starring Keira Knightley as the Sugar Plum Fairy and featuring a special performance by Misty Copeland, Disney’s new holiday feature film “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” is directed by Lasse Hallström and inspired by E.T.A. Hoffmann’s classic tale.
When Blitzen suddenly announces his retirement, Santa needs to find a replacement. Against all odds, Elliot and his best friend, Hazel, set out to prove that he is the horse for the job. As Elliot and Hazel take on the North Pole reindeer try-outs, Hazel learns that Christmas, as we know it, may be headed for disaster.
