How does my discount work?

For natural gas customers, if you are signed up to the Monthly Smart Saver plan you will receive 10%* off your natural gas usage charges guaranteed for at least 24 months.

The discount applies to the usage component of the standard tariff (based on the Government-regulated capped tariff) and is the price you currently pay.

The discount does not apply to the supply charge, which represents the fixed costs of delivering the gas to your home, or other fees on your gas bill.

Can I change my plan?

For natural gas customers, yes you can. You can change between a Standard Form Contract and Monthly Smart Saver without incurring any fees.

If you wish to change plans contact the Kleenheat Customer Service Centre on 13 21 80.

Can I cancel my plan?

For natural gas customers, yes you can. If you are on a plan other than the Standard Form Contract, you can cancel your plan during the cooling off period without penalty.

If you are outside your cooling off period, you will need to give us a minimum 3 business days’ notice before you end your plan; no fees will apply.

How often will I be billed?

All natural residential customers will be sent a bill when their meter is read by the distributor, which happens every 3 months. Your bill will be mailed or emailed to you, based on the method you selected at sign up, or the plan you are on.

Are there any concessions available?

Kleenheat does not offer any concession for natural gas customers, however if you are a valid concession cardholder you may be eligible for the State Government Energy Rebate.

How do you calculate my monthly instalments under the Monthly Smart Saver?

Under the Monthly Smart Saver plan, you pay monthly instalments rather than quarterly bills. So you pay smaller amounts more frequently, helping avoid bill shock in winter. You will still receive a bill to show how your instalments are tracking compared to your actual gas costs.

We recalculate your instalments every three months when your meter is read, and any changes to the instalment amount will be shown on your bill.

Your monthly instalments will be calculated using both your forecasted gas usage and an adjustment factor.

Examples of how your gas cost is calculated
We aim to set your instalments to reflect what your actual gas usage will be each month. We try our best to estimate your individual household gas usage, and we do this a few different ways depending on your situation.

Switched your existing home to Kleenheat within the last 12 months?

If we’ve managed to get your past meter reads from the network operator, we’ll assume that you will use the same amount of gas as last year.

For example, John recently switched to Kleenheat and his past meter reads show he used 1,000 units of Gas in July last year. Based on this, we’ll assume he will use 1,000 units of gas in July this year.
If for any reason we haven't been able to get your past meter reads, your first instalments will be based on the average household usage for that time of year, which is approximately 650 units of gas in the winter months, dropping to 200 units of gas in the summer months.

For example, Jenny switched to Kleenheat in January and her past meter reads were unavailable, so we’ll assume she’ll use around 200 units of gas in January like the average household.
When you've been with us for a few months we'll start tailoring our estimates to your actual usage. We’ll take your most recent meter read and assume that your gas use will change from season to season according to the average household seasonal profile.

Recently moved into a new home?

Your first instalments will be based on the average household usage for the time of year which is around 650 units of gas in the winter months, dropping to around 200 units of gas in the summer months.

For example, Jack just moved into his new house in July, so we’ll assume he’ll use around 650 units of gas for that month.
When you’ve been with us for a few months, we start tailoring our estimates to your actual usage. We’ll take your most recent meter read and assume that your gas use will change from season to season according to the average usage for the time of year.

Been with Kleenheat for more than 12 months?

We’ll assume that you will use the same amount of gas as last year.
For example, Jane used 700 units of gas in July last year, so we’ll assume she’ll use 700 units in July this year.

Adjustment factor
Sometimes, you will use more or less than we expected. Don’t worry though; we’ll just sort out the difference over the next three months. For example, if we estimated you’d use $60 of gas each month when you actually used $70 per month, your next three instalments will include an adjustment factor of $10.

If you think you will use more or less gas per month than your instalment suggests, we invite you to give us a call and we’ll work out an instalment amount that better reflects your usage.

What is a MIRN and where do I find it?

Natural Gas Customers:
MIRN stands for Meter Installation Registration Number. This is a unique 11 digit number assigned to your gas service by the distributor and used by the gas distributor and retailers to identify your delivery point. You can find your MIRN on the back page of your gas bill.
