Bangladesh
Kleenheat is the major stakeholder
in Bangladesh's first multi-national joint venture LPG project.
Wesfarmers Kleenheat Elpiji Limited (WKEL) was formed to develop an LPG importation, marketing and distribution business in Bangladesh. The three major shareholders are:
-
Wesfarmers Energy;
-
Elpiji (M) Sdn Bhd; and
-
The Palmal Group of Industries of Bangladesh.
The LPG import terminal, located at
Mongla, in south-west Bangladesh, was commissioned in September 2001. The
terminal currently has a capacity of 1,600 MT of commercial grade LPG product
and supplies the domestic cylinder market as well as industrial and bulk
customers.
LPG provides Bangladesh and
surrounding rural communities with a safe alternate energy source.
Its clean burning properties help reduce the pollution that results from
burning natural resources, such as wood and paraffin, which have traditionally
been used.
Kleenheat is actively involved in the formation of the Bangladesh LPG
Association in an effort to raise LPG awareness. As a founding member of
this Association, the company has helped formulate codes of practice, and
continues to participate in the evolution of these codes.
