Company History
Kleenheat is part of Wesfarmers Energy, a division of Wesfarmers Limited which has origins dating back to 1914.
Listed on the Australian stock exchange in 1984, Wesfarmers is a major diversified industrial group and is acknowledged as one of Australia's most successful companies.
Wesfarmers business interests cover coal mining; gas processing and distribution, retailing of home and garden improvement products and building materials; provision of rural merchandise services; insurance; fertilisers and chemicals manufacture; industrial and safety product distribution; rail transport; and forest products.
Originally at the forefront of developing LPG usage to service the needs of rural West Australians, the company was established by the then Westralian Farmers Co-operative Limited in 1956, after a petroleum refinery was established at Kwinana in Western Australia. With a reliable source of LPG from the refinery, Kleenheat pioneered the distribution of both gas and gas appliances in this state.
The company’s aim in this early period was to grow a market for LPG, in a country then dominated by electricity and solid fuel. To accelerate this growth, Kleenheat was a foundation member of the Australian Liquefied Petroleum Gas Association (ALPGA). Kleenheat helped to formulate codes of practice for the industry and continues to participate in the evolution of these codes.
Today, Kleenheat is a proud leader in the supply, distribution and application of LPG to growing markets in all mainland states of Australia through a comprehensive network of depots, company-operated branches, dealers and franchisees. Across the nation, the company services in excess of 14,080 bulk and 230,398 domestic customer installations. Business is conducted with the highest regard for the safety of Kleenheat staff, customers and the community at large.
In addition, Kleenheat operates in growing international markets, including Bangladesh, Christmas Island, the Cocos Islands, New Caledonia and East Timor.
